Enthoven Associates started back in 1976 as IDEA (Industrial Design Enthoven Axel), and changed its name in 1989 when it became a partnership. The company was founded by Axel Enthoven, who is still the company's President. At the moment, the company has 18 staff members.

The bureau has no sectorial specialisation, although approximately 50 % of sales are done in furniture and transportation.

Enthoven Associates has clients worldwide. Partnerships were developed in South-East Asia and the Far East to better service clients in this area. Daughter companies were started in The Netherlands in 1999 and in France in 2007.

In 2001, Enthoven Associates merged with Yellow Window Management Consultants to widen the scope of decision-support services.

Enthoven Associates moved in 2007 to a new location in the city centre of Antwerp. This is a modernist building from architect Willy Vandermeeren.

Axel on his connection with Passe-Partout:

Dear reader

As a designer, I am very proud to contribute to the content of this book.

The attention, the respect and the ambition of the publisher and the driving force behind the collections presented in the book, inspired me to be part of its creation.

There are two types of designers: those who have their own character and style and thus innovate and create exciting collections and those who create a personal style for their clients. I dedicated my life to the latter.

My main goal is to listen, observe and analyze well and to translate the information of my customers to a realizable product with added value.

A coach or a sofa must be comfortable, but it is also a designer’s duty to make the buyer or user happy, to give furniture a soul, and to continuously strive for balance and beauty.

One can invent a line, a collection or a model that is modern, timeless or avant-garde, but it is even more important that the manufacturer, the publisher or the marketeer show the furniture in the right setting.

This book proves that the presented designers were successful in doing this. That is why I wanted to put my soul into it.
