Laura Steenbeke

During my architectural studies and first years of working experience, my interest in the multidisciplinary of architecture started to develop. The approach from a wide range of references offers different scales to be implemented. In this way, an object can already determine the entire space or way of living. From this belief, I started designing furniture for Passe Partout. The whole story behind the Jukebox-series started in my third year of Architectural Sciences at the university of Antwerp: a structural knot of a roof-construction became the major detail of a table. This search and the conscious choice of a detail has triggered me ever since. It often determines already the functionality, materiality and flexibility of the design.

I find it important to watch over the purity of an idea, which often feels like a sort of evidence in both architecture and interior design, with a certain sobriety and rationality that on the other hand is fascinating in many more layers. A good design retains a prominent identity, but is open to flexibility and above all freedom, which Jukebox and other series like Amazon can confirm.
